Privacy policy.
This policy explains what socialmoms. collects, why, and who else sees it. It describes this website specifically — not a general template — so where it says we do not do something, we do not do it.
What we collect
Only what you give us, and only where you give it. If you register a brand: the brand name and what it sells, a link to your website or Instagram if you give one, your name, email address and phone number, the emirate or country you are based in, whether you have confirmed the business is licensed, the licence number if you give one, and the moment you confirmed you had read this policy. If you write to us: your name, email address and your message. If you pitch a collaboration: your name, your brand, your Instagram handle if you give one, your pitch, and the email address or phone number you give us to reply. If you create an account: your full name, your email address and your mobile number. If you sign up for updates: your email address, where on the site you signed up, and whether you asked for ongoing news or only to hear when the shop opens. If you order something: what you ordered, what it cost, a reference for the payment, and the name, phone number and delivery address you give us for it. If you are signed in, we also keep your account's email address with the order so we can send your receipt. If you ask us to place an order, a booking or a membership for you: a member of the socialmoms. team enters it on your behalf, with the name, email address, phone number and delivery address you give them for it, and keeps a short note of how it was arranged and paid, and of any price agreed with you. If you buy an event ticket: your name, your email address, the event and how many seats. If you buy a membership: the plan, when each period starts and ends, and which reminders we have sent you. If we arrange a membership with you ourselves, without a payment on this site: the same, and the owner of the business may record a short note with it about the arrangement. Only the owner can read that note, and it is kept with the membership record. If you sell with us: the Ziina username we pay you at, every change to it, and a record of each payout we make to you. These stay after your store closes, because they are the record of what we paid you. We ask for a copy of your trade licence only after we have read your application and want to take it further, and only from brands we are going ahead with. It is not collected by the registration form and we hold no licence documents for applications we do not proceed with. We do not ask for anything we do not need, and there is no field on this site whose purpose is to profile you.
How we use it
To answer you, to fulfil what you asked for, and for nothing else. To read and reply to a brand registration or a message. To process and deliver an order. Each maker ships her own parcel, so the maker of each item you buy receives your name, phone number and delivery address for that item, and nothing else about you or the rest of your order. To send you a receipt when a payment goes through, and a notice if it is refunded, at the email address you gave for a ticket or the one on your account. If you hold a membership, whether you paid for it here or we arranged it with you, we also email you seven days and one day before it ends, because it does not renew by itself. If our team places an order for you to pay by card, we email you the link to Ziina's payment page for it, and its receipt, at the address you gave them. Nothing else is sent to it. To keep the guest list for an event you book, which the host sees. To keep your account and, if you sell with us, your storefront working. To reach you about your account or membership, by phone or WhatsApp, at the mobile number on your account, and to add you to the community WhatsApp groups your membership includes. We send news only to people who asked for it: by signing up in the footer, or by ticking the updates box when asking to hear about the shop's launch. Asking only to hear when the shop opens gets you that one announcement and nothing more. Registering a brand or writing to us puts you on no list. To stop hearing from us, email hello@thesocialmoms.com and we will take you off the list.
Cookies, and what is stored on your device
We set no tracking cookies. Loading a page sets none from anyone else, with one exception: the map on an upcoming event's page, described below. Our own cookies are set only when you use an account: signing up, signing in or asking to reset a password sets the cookies that sign-in needs, including the session that keeps you signed in. Signing out ends the session. Your shopping basket is kept in your browser's local storage so it survives a refresh. It stays on your device, is never sent to us until you check out, and belongs to that browser alone — it will not follow you to your phone. If you hide the notices of recent purchases in the shop, that choice is kept in your browser's session storage for that tab only, and forgotten when the tab closes. Some articles and stories include a video from YouTube or an episode from Spotify. Nothing loads from either until you press play. When you do, your browser fetches the player from YouTube (at its youtube-nocookie.com address) or from Spotify, which then receive your IP address and may set their own cookies, under their own privacy policies. An upcoming event's page shows where it is on a map from Google Maps. The map loads with the page, as it comes into view, without waiting for you to press anything: your browser fetches it from Google, which receives your IP address and may set its own cookies, under Google's privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). "Open in Google Maps" beside it takes you to Google's own site. There is no advertising pixel, no session recorder and no third-party analytics script anywhere on this site.
How we count visits
We count how many people read a page. We cannot tell who they were, and the design is deliberate. When a page loads we take your IP address and browser type, mix them with a secret only our server knows and with today's date, and turn the result into an unreadable digest. The IP address and browser type are then discarded — they are never written down. Booking an event ticket, or paying for a basket without signing in, uses a digest made the same way, from your IP address without the browser type, to limit how many attempts one connection can make, and that digest is deleted after a day. Because today's date is part of it, the digest changes tomorrow. Within one day a returning reader counts once; across two days there is no way to tell it was the same person. That is what lets us answer "how many people read this" without keeping any record of who you are. We also store which page was viewed and the website you arrived from — the site's name only, such as instagram.com, never the full address, which can carry what you searched for.
Who else handles it
We never sell or rent your information, and we do not share it for advertising. These companies process data on our behalf because the site runs on them: Supabase — our database, sign-in and file storage. Vercel — hosting; it serves every page you load. Resend — sends the confirmation and notification emails described above. Ziina — takes payment, holds the card number, expiry date and security code, which we never see, and pays makers their share to their Ziina account. When you order, the maker of each item receives your name, phone number and delivery address so she can ship it. Makers are independent businesses selling through socialmoms., not companies working on our behalf, and they see only the details for their own items. If we add you to a community WhatsApp group, WhatsApp receives your mobile number, under its own privacy policy, and the other members of that group see your name and number. We may also share information where the law requires it. Nothing else leaves us. If you press play on a video or an episode in an article, your browser contacts YouTube or Spotify directly, and if you open an upcoming event's page, it contacts Google for the map, as the section on cookies explains. Our typefaces are served from our own servers, so loading a page contacts no font provider.
Payments
Your card number, expiry date and security code never reach socialmoms. You pay on Ziina's own payment page, whether for the shop, an event ticket or a membership, and come back to your receipt on this site. You type your card into their form, on their systems. They tell us whether the payment succeeded and, with it, the card's brand, its last four digits, the first digits that identify the issuing bank, and the bank and country that issued it. We keep that with a reference for the payment, what you ordered and what it cost — never a full card number, an expiry date or a security code. If you pay for an order outside the site instead, in cash or by bank transfer to socialmoms., Ziina is not involved and no card is used, so nothing about a card reaches Ziina or us. We record that it was paid that way, the amount and the day, and the same when an order is given to you without charge.
Keeping it safe
Every table in our database has row-level security, so what you can read is decided by the database itself rather than by the page asking. Application data cannot be read by other visitors, and seller data cannot be read by other sellers. Keys and secrets are held on the server and are never sent to your browser. No system is perfect, and we do not claim ours is — but nothing here relies on a page politely not asking for something it should not have.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or withdraw your agreement to be contacted. There is no button for this yet — email hello@thesocialmoms.com and a person will do it. We will ask you to confirm you are who you say you are, so that nobody else can make the request for you. Some records we may have to keep even after a request, where the law requires it — a completed order, for example.
How long we keep it
We have not set a fixed retention period, and we would rather say so than name one we do not enforce. In practice we keep an application or a message for as long as it is useful to the conversation it belongs to, and order records for as long as the law requires. If you want something deleted sooner, ask us and we will, except the records the law requires us to keep: what was sold, and what we paid a seller.
Children
This site is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update it here. If a change materially affects what we do with information you have already given us, we will contact you rather than rely on you re-reading this page.
